My fiancé and I officially tied the knot April 30, 2016! We both wanted to have a small intimate wedding and invite just our closest family and friends and I’m so happy we kept it small. It was so much less stressful and I was able to talk to each and every guest that came (about 54 people). We wanted to keep it semi casual since we live at the beach but still elegant and beautiful.
We were so happy with the outcome of both venues, it really was a dream come true! Our wedding ceremony took place at the beautiful Crystal Cove State Park on the upper cultural deck. It showed breathtaking views of the ocean and we totally scored with absolutely perfect weather, about 75 and sunny with no wind! Baker Party Rentals set up all the chairs overlooking the ocean with our arch at the end of the deck which was beautifully decorated with white sheer linens and a spray of flowers across the top.
We chose to include a Sand Ceremony which is the blending of 2 different colored sands to symbolize the joining of our families. I bought sea shells and star fish from Michael’s to decorate the table along with a white tulle wrap as a table cloth. I was so happy with the way it turned out, especially with the white and blue sand that we blended together.
Our reception was held at my favorite restaurant, Mastros Ocean Club in the Crystal Cove shopping center in Newport Coast (just across the street from Crystal Cove State Park). They always provide exceptional service and are just a beautiful restaurant with gorgeous views of the ocean (and of course they are famous for they unbelievable BUTTER CAKE!). We decided to have 2 long tables for our guests rather than rounds to make it feel more intimate and I loved the way it brought everyone together. We had 27 people at each table, so everyone had the chance to meet. Our florist did a beautiful job of decorating the tables with long sprays of garlands that were made up of eucalyptus, angels breath and white roses. The night was magical and I couldn’t have been happier!

All in all, I spent about 3 months planning the wedding weekend. It was a destination wedding for almost every guest except my husband & I (we live in Newport) so I locked in guest rates at a hotel nearby a couple months before and also had a few other suggestions such as VRBO and other local hotels on our wedding website.
What was a little different about my wedding was that I wanted it to be a fun weekend get away or all my guests rather than just one fun night (since most guests had to fly from the east coast or San Francisco) so we had a whole weekend itinerary of events. Friday was our “rehearsal dinner” which was a catered event hosted by The Private Chefs (mentioned earlier). We had 3 chefs throughout our house- one on the roof deck where we have a BBQ (he served Chilean Sea Bass Kabobs and Filet Mignon Kabobs), another chef in our kitchen serving hand passed shrimp cocktails & chicken sliders and the 3rd chef out on our front patio where we have a pizza oven (he was serving margarita & mushroom pizzas).
Saturday was the big day where all our guests got picked up by a chartered bus that I hired and dropped them off at the venue. They made several trips back to the hotels as guests left throughout the night. It was also nice since nobody had to worry about drinking and driving or waiting around for lost Ubers.
Sunday I picked up my all time favorite donuts in the world: Sidecar Doughnuts & had everyone come by for an open brunch at our house. We were pumping out lattes and cappuccinos all morning while munching on delicious donuts laughing about all our favorite memories over the weekend! It was so nice getting to see everyone after the big event before they all flew home.
Hope that sharing my wedding story inspires others to plan the wedding of their dreams! It is so easy to get overly stressed out & pressured into pleasing everybody else that you forget that the day is all about you and your fiancé, so enjoy yourself & drink some bubbly!
