Splurge vs. Steal: Holiday Edition

Let’s face it, it’s nearly impossible to resist a good bargain. Of course, it’s also nearly impossible to resist a beautiful shoe… or bag… or dress! The good news is that I’ve compiled a list of stylish and beautiful items that would definitely be a splurge and their cash-saving counterparts. For those times when you want the $800 look, but don’t want to spend the $800, check out my holiday edition of splurge vs. steal!

Splurge                                                                                             Steal

Valentino Rockstud Flats                                                                      Halogen’s Bristal Ankle Strap Pointy Toe Flat

Valentino’s Rockstud Flats are the perfect blend of hard rock attitude and delicate ballerina style. But Halogen’s Bristal Ankle Strap Pointy Toe Flats offer the same elements for a fraction of the price. Halogen’s version might have smaller studs and a slightly different ankle strap, but I actually prefer the more understated look. I also prefer the comfy suede Halogen’s versus the stiffer Valentino’s version. The Bristal Pointy Toe Flat comes in burgundry, charchoal, and black. For the holiday season you can’t go wrong with any of those shades!

Balenciaga City Bag                                                                                             Rebecca Minkoff ‘Regan’ Satchel

I have to admit it was love at first sight when I first saw Balenciaga’s City Bag. The fires of that love were quickly quenched when I saw the price tag, though! At close to $2,000 this bag is great, but not great enough to break the bank. So I went hunting for something just as amazing for less. And I was not disappointed. I found Rebecca Minkoff’s Regan Satchel and fell in love all over again. It’s a great size just like the Balenciaga and I adore that kind of slouchy look. It has the top handle and shoulder strap with the big outside pocket for easy to access necessities. I also love all the fringe on the Rebecca Minkoff! For less than $400, this certainly is a steal!

Stuart Weitzman Over The Knee Boot                                                              Steve Madden Norri Over the Knee Boot

Over the knee boots are a must for the winter season. We might not get much snow here in Orange County but the temperatures occasionally drop enough for a boot. And if I’m going to wear a pair of boots, I am going to go all out! Since I don’t have much use for over the knee boots, I didn’t want to splurge on a pair I wasn’t going to get to wear a lot even though I love all of Stuart Weitzman’s thigh highs. Thankfully Steve Madden offers a bunch of options for over the knee boots, too! I love how the boots keep their shape and don’t slouch down. With the heel, they also make my legs look nice and long, which every woman appreciates. The soft satin lining means they are comfortable and my legs don’t get too warm. They go perfectly with some of my holiday dresses!

Prada Criss Cross Sandals                                                                        Steve Madden ‘Irenee’ Ankle Strap Sandal

While I might not have a lot of use for thigh high boots (gorgeous as they may be) I definitely need all the strappy sandals I can get! I had my eye on the Prada Criss Cross Sandals, but then saw Steve Madden’s version – the Irenee Ankle Strap Sandal. I love the simple look of just the two straps. I also adore the modest heel. It gives me some height, but isn’t super high or uncomfortable. These sandals are great for day or evening. And that two-digit price tag (rather than the three-digit Prada price!) is definitely something I love to see.

James Perse Dress                                                                                     Leith Ruched Body-Con Tank Dress

We all know I love a good body con dress! The more body con dresses the merrier, I say! And the more steals I can find to substitute for splurges the better. I love the simple look of James Perse’s version, but I also absolutely adore the steal! Leith’s Body Con Tank Dress has ruching on one side, which I love. It just adds that extra texture to the dress and makes it more interesting. Because it’s a tank dress I can layer it with a blazer, scarf, or cardigan, and pair it with either some thigh high boots or a strappy sandal. It’s versatile, comfortable, pretty, and a steal… what more could a girl ask for?

I love Stuart Weitzman! I admit, I usually go for the splurge and buy his boots because they’re so well constructed and comfortable that they’re worth the purchase. I love that dress you selected as the James Perse alternate!

These are some great picks! I really love the last tank dress. It’s so chic and for a pretty decent price as well.
